I wish he hadn't killed himself… I wanted him to suffer': House of Horrors victim Gina DeJesus on her struggle to come to terms with her ordeal at the hands of Ariel Castro - but says she has FORGIVEN him

  • Gina DeJesus was kidnapped by Ariel Castro when she was 14 years old
  • Endured years of repeated rapes and being help captive in heavy chains
  • Women escaped after 10 years and Castro was sentenced to life in prison
  • Gina wished he had not then killed himself so he could suffer like them
  • But she has forgiven abuser in order to be able to move on with her life
One of the women kidnapped and held captive by abuser Ariel Castro for more than 10 years has revealed her struggle as she attempts to forgive him so she can move on with her life.
Gina DeJesus was one of three women held captive by Castro in his Cleveland home where she endured years of rapes and was held in chains.
Just a month after Castro was sentenced to life in prison after he admitted holding the three women captive he hanged himself in his prison cell.

Gina, who was just 14 when she was taken, told ABC News: 'I wish he wouldn't [have] killed himself because I wanted him to suffer.'
But she said that because she is determined to move on from the experience she has forgiven Castro.
'I think that you have to forgive in order to move on with your life,' she added.
Gina's mother previously said she had also decided to forgive her daughter's abuser because she did not want to be consumed by hate.
But Amanda Berry, who was taken at the age of 16 and eventually had a child in captivity as a result of Castro's repeated rapes, said she could not forgive him.
Amanda has previously revealed how she learned her mother had died by watching television coverage while she was held captive nearby 'like a dog in chains.' She said Castro had taunted her for years by pretending to phone her mother and allowing her to watch her tearful appeals for her to return home.

Shortly after her mother's death Amanda became pregnant with Castro's daughter.
It was the quick thinking of her daughter who noticed Castro had gone out on May 6, 2013 and told her mother. Amanda then kicked the door down and made her bid for freedom.
Castro pleaded guilty in July 2013 to 937 counts including two charges of aggravated murder related to one act of forcing one of his victims to miscarry. Searches of his home revealed how the windows had been blocked with wooden doors, with the bolts sawn off to stop the women escaping, and chains littered the floor.
The women have since revealed how they were raped up to five times a day and forced to watch as Castro attacked each one of them. Castro blamed his need to rape the girls on his 'sexual problem' and fixated on his penis which he called 'Charlie', according to the memoir.

The 53-year-old was sentenced to life in prison without parole, plus 1,000 years in August 2013. He hanged himself in his prison cell less than a month into his sentence.
Amanda, now 29, previously said she set her alarm to 6am to wake up and watch Prince William and Kate Middleton's 2011 wedding live on television.
The event provided brief respite during her horrifying ordeal in which she was raped up to five times a day.
In an exclusive interview with Newsnight, she described how she enjoyed watching the news during her time in Castro's house, and the impending royal wedding in April 2011 was highly anticipated across all the networks.
